WHO Issues Concern Over Critical Lack of Obesity Jabs
Under a tenth of patients that would benefit from weight-loss injections including Wegovy are able to get them, caution the World Health Organization as it releases its inaugural guidance on the therapies.

GLP-1 Therapy Scarcity
Even under the present most favorable scenario, the manufacturing of these medications might only reach about 100 million people – fewer than 10% of eligible patients, per the WHO.
The advice urges countries and companies to widen access, via measures including patent sharing.
Exclusive production rights on the active ingredient – the core component of the drug Wegovy – is set to lapse in multiple nations in 2026.
The Way Weight-Loss Injections Function
The injections imitate a natural hormone to reduce digestion speed, reduce hunger and boost feelings of fullness so individuals consume fewer calories.
People usually start to lose weight in the initial weeks of commencing the weekly injections.
Research indicates people may put most of the weight back on a year later of halting the drug, when their usual hunger return.
