A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial championship for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult year, achieving just one win at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in particular - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-term trainer Cervara.

Currently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden title since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court since spring of the previous year.

The win also indicates he has won 21 victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.

The player's retrieving approach and recurring emotional displays on court had prompted observers to question if his skill to perform at the highest level was finished.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and play positively, reinforced by an improved serve.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging opponent, securing four of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players swapped service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his maiden professional title, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

He defended 4 early opportunities in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured the win with a rally at the net, with Moutet incapable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
